RECYCLE HOLIDAY LIGHTS DRIVE: The Environmental Awareness Committee will be holding a “recycle holiday lights” drive December 9 through December 19. So please bring in any old & broken holiday lights to the Commons area where we will have boxes to recycle these holiday lights. For questions, contact Michelle Derochowski (firstname.lastname@example.org).
BOX TOPS & SHOPAROO: Help support Ivy with these 3 simple steps:
1. Download the BoxTops Digital and ShopaRoo apps to your mobile device.
2. Register for accounts if you don’t have one yet. For Shoparoo, link your email and Amazon to get big bonuses!
3. Start snapping pictures of receipts in the app to earn. That’s it!
This is a quick and easy way to help raise $ for our school.
Which receipts can I scan for each app? Great question! The Box Tops app scans your receipts for products containing Box Tops and credits you for those products only. (Ex. If you buy a gallon of milk and a magazine and scan the receipt, you will receive 0 Box Tops. If you buy 3 eligible products, when you scan the receipt, you’ll be credited for the 3 Box stops and you DON’T need to clip anything! Toss your receipt and the product packaging. )
ShopaRoo gives points and sweepstakes entries for ANY receipt. Points for grocery and drug stores, and sweepstakes for everything else. So scan every receipt you get (e.g. fast food, gasoline, grocery store, restaurants, etc. )!
Download the apps from the App Store or Google Play. See flyers for more info, or email Jules Motschall (IvyHillBoxTops@gmail.com).
SIX FLAGS – READ TO SUCCEED is back! Think summer, sun and splashing at Great America next summer! Students need to read 6 hours (homework assignments not included) and keep a log of reading titles and minutes read to earn a FREE Six Flags Great America one day pass for the 2020 summer season (these can also be used to purchase a Season Pass for a discount). NEW THIS YEAR – parents/guardians will need to register their student(s) for the program on-line using a Teacher Specific Code, which will be sent home soon, if you haven’t received it already. Then, complete the online eReading log, by Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 (there are no paper forms to send back this year). Personalized day passes will be issued and set home in May. Additionally, if students read more than 6 hours they may be eligible for Extra Rewards this year. Once these are determined by Six Flags, you will be able to see them in the Rewards area of the online site. You must attend Ivy Hill to be part of our program. For questions, contact Nikki Wolverton (email@example.com) or Louann Benbow (firstname.lastname@example.org).

PTA MEETING: Save the date, our next meeting is on Wednesday, January 8 @ 7pm at Ivy in the LMC. Here is information about our guest speaker who will be joining us:
Meribeth Cassidy, pediatric occupational therapist and owner of Step Forward Therapy, a pediatric OT and Speech clinic in Arlington Heights, will give a short presentation titled “Why We Misunderstand Behaviors.” Meribeth will talk about how we can be more present with our kids as well as using their “behaviors” as a guide to facilitate communication and problem solving. She will also introduce the opportunity to participate in a book club during the remainder of the school year to discuss “Raising Human Beings” by Dr Ross Greene. Dr Greene’s book introduces a different approach to problem solving through our children’s behavior called Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS). CPS is a proactive, collaborative approach that focuses on problem solving between parent and child to address lagging skills and unsolved problems. It focuses on working with the child to help him or her develop the skills to problem solve, be successful through difficult situations, and develop skills to be more thoughtful, resilient and empathic. The book club will be facilitated by both Meribeth Cassidy and Carrie Holt.
Babysitting is available. If you have any general questions about the PTA or PTA meetings, contact our PTA Co-Presidents Caroleen Guiwargis (email@example.com) and Jennifer Sadowski (firstname.lastname@example.org). We hope you can join us!
NEXT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING: Thursday, January 16 @ 7:30 p.m. at Dunton.
