PTA Happenings: May 27- June 2, 2016

FIELD DAY COMMITTEE:  Field Day is Friday, June 3rd. The morning session, 9:00 to 12:00, will be for AM Kindergarten, 3rd grade (Como-Sobanski and Tazioli) 4th  and 5th. The afternoon session, 12:30 to 3:00, is for PM Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade (Knutson and Taylor-Schlickman.) The kids will be outside and, weather permitting, will be playing games with water.  Students are able to wear swimsuits if they desire, but it is not required. Girls suits can be worn under their clothes during class. Don’t forget sunscreen (note: the school staff/parent volunteers cannot put this on for the students). ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS COMMITTEE:
Let’s recycle all our old used markers and turn them into energy – clean fuel!  Please donate any old markers including dry erase and highlighters by giving them to your teachers Tuesday, May 31th – Monday, June 6th. Please count all your used markers and give them to your teacher. The class with the most markers collected will win Ivy Hill reusable water bottles!  See the letter on reverse side with more details about this great marker/Colorcycle  program.  Questions? School Supply Kits are On Sale NOW! Ivy Hill PTA offers our families the ability to purchase pre-packaged and approved school supply kits through our vendor, EPI. The sale is taking place now through the end of the school year and orders are being accepted Online ONLY. To order: Go to www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks. Enter the school ID, IVY003. Follow the directions on the website to complete your order. All kits will be delivered to school and can be picked up during the Teacher Meet and Greet/Ice Cream Social prior to the first day of school. Questions? BOX TOPS/SHOPAROO:  SUCCESS!    We have raised over $1,245.00 from collecting Box Tops this school year!  We are currently at $400.00 for the Shoparoo program!  Remember, Shoparoo to keep scanning receipts and collecting  Box Tops all summer long!  There is a Summer Box Top Contest so have your Box Tops ready for the 1st day of school!

We hope that the raffles were fun and motivating for everyone!   Ivy Hill PTA wants to thank everyone who participated in the Box Top and Shoparoo Programs this school year!

PTA Happenings: May 13-19, 2016

GARDEN COMMITTEE: Let’s get ready to do some gardening!  All students will participate in the planting of the Ivy Hill garden plots on Monday, May 16th so please dress appropriately.  We will be planting a “Vegetable Dip Garden” – all those vegetable kids loved to dip in dressing.   Also, all the children will  get a chance to sample the vegetables they plant in a special “Vegetable Dip Tasting” after we harvest the vegetables in the fall.

ABC25 NEWS: ABC/25 Foundation’s Membership Drive for 2016-17 is now underway!  Be sure to sign up to join ABC/25 Foundation when you register your child online for school next year.  With a minimum $40 donation, your family can join ABC/25 and help Ivy Hill earn a $2500 grant which is given when 25% of Ivy Hill  families join.  ABC/25 Foundation is the fundraising partner of D25, raising money to support innovation, creativity, and excellence in our children’s classrooms.
ABC/25 Foundation and ComEd’s Hourly Pricing Program are hosting a Virtual STEM Fair for District 25 students. The Virtual STEM Fair challenges students to explore, examine and analyze scientific questions and have fun! There’s also an opportunity to help raise money for ABC/25 teacher grants.   Students will submit videos on their projects online!
Cash prizes are awarded per age group(K-2, 3-5, 6-8) by a panel of ComEd and STEM industry professionals. Deadline to submit projects online is May 20,2016 Learn more and register at www.abc25.org Questions? email abc25president@gmail.com

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE: Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week!  Thank you for your participation!

Monday, May 9Let’s “Sweet” It All Out
Julie Soderna, an Ivy Hill mom and fitness instructor, will be providing a fun high intensity/low impact interval workout from 4:00-5:00 pm in the gym for all teachers and staff.

Tuesday, May 10: Ten sweet fingers, ten sweet toes. Boy or Girl, Who Will Know?
Please bring in one baby picture of your child this morning (write the name on back). Teachers will be guessing the baby pictures of each of their students! Their picture will be displayed and returned to you the following week.
Wednesday, May 11Roses are red, Violets are blue, Sugar is Sweet and so are you” ~Flower Day
Have your child bring in one flower for their teacher (a flower from your garden would be great).  One flower from each student will create a beautiful bouquet!

Thursday, May 12A Note of Thanks
Have your child write a note of thanks to their teacherMake a card, hand-write a note on a sheet of paper or draw a picture.

Friday, May 13: “How Sweet it is to be Just like you” ~Favorite Color or Sports Team
Have your child wear their teacher’s favorite color or favorite team shirt.
