PTA HAPPENINGS – April 27-May 3, 2018

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  The last PTA meeting of the year will be held May 15, 2018. Please note the new date.  Please plan to attend as we will be voting on several issues and voting in the new board of officers. We need your votes!

 NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The following are slated for Executive Board Offices for 2018-2019. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the time of the election. Nominees must have agreed to take on the role (if elected) prior to their nomination.  The nominees are as follows:

IVY HILL SENIOR WALK:  An Ivy Hill “Senior Walk” is being planned wherein Buffalo Grove graduating seniors, who are alumni of Ivy Hill, will walk the halls of Ivy Hill in their cap and gown.  The Senior Walk is scheduled to take place on May 23, 2018, at 3:15 p.m. with a short reception to follow.  More information can be found on the Ivy Hill Facebook page.

PTA HAPPENINGS – April 20-26, 2018

COMMUNITY AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:  In celebration of Earth Day, join us in a week of collections and activities to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage families to reduce, reuse and recycle!  Below is an overview of our 2018 Earth Week activities for April 23 – 27th.  Go Green in April with these Recycling Drives April 23 through 27.  In the spirit of Earth Week, wear green or blue on Friday, April 27th.

  1. Bernie’s Book Drive:  Donate your gently used children books – infants to 6th grade.  Our goal is 1500 books which will be donated to at-risk children throughout the Chicagoland area.
  2. Reuse-A-Shoe Drive:  Bring in your old shoes, tie or rubber band shoes together
  3. Bag for Bags Collection: Bring a bag filled with plastic bags & film packaging (over TP,  paper towels…) and know you are making a difference in saving our Earth.
  4. *Be Cool & Walk to School” on Thursday, April 26th and get a cool hand stamp for participating.   The following are the six starting points throughout the neighborhood for all students to meet with teachers & parents and walk to school:
  • Douglas & Hintz – 8:30 start to Ivy Hill
  • Camelot Park – 8:40 start to Ivy Hill
  • Windsor & Valley – 8:45 start to Ivy Hill
  • Pinetree & Valley – 8:45 start to Ivy Hill
  • Ivy & Arlington Heights Road – 8:40 start to Ivy Hill
  • Burke & Palatine Road 8:40 start to Ivy Hill

All students are welcome to participate.  If you live on the other side of a busy road (Arlington Heights Road, Palatine, etc.) you can drop your child(ren) at the starting point closest to your home.  Also, you can meet up with the Walking School Bus as it passes your house – you don’t have to start at the starting points.  Let’s get active!

 YEARBOOK COMMITTEE:   Order your yearbook!  ORDER DEADLINE EXTENDED!
Please print and complete this form checkHOURSyearbookcheck, place in a envelope to school. Checks made payable to Ivy Hill  PTA will be accepted. Your check will be your only receipt. Buy a yearbook for cost: $16.00. After Tuesday the price of the yearbook is $20.00 (limited supplies)

JUST MOVE IT! CHALLENGE:  It’s time for the Just Move It! Challenge 2018!  Run, Walk, or Volunteer!  JUST MOVE IT!  We need VOLUNTEERS to make this day successful.  If you don’t want to run or walk, please consider volunteering.  It’s a fun day!  Volunteer sign up is ready at:  Volunteer signup.Click here to register to run or walk!   • 7:30 – 10:00 a.m. Health and Fitness Expo

The school with the most participation gets to showcase the JMI trophy for the next year! Participation includes runners, walkers AND volunteers!  Contact your school representative, Katie Rausch, katier18@yahoo.com,  or jmichallenge@gmail.com with questions or suggestions.

*All proceeds go to the Scholarship and Grant Fund, benefiting the education of School District 25 students through the ABC/25 Foundation Grant selection.

The state-of-the-art hands-on children’s museum focuses on STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, art and math).  Please help us to manage the kids and the exhibit. Hello from the CULTURAL ARTS COMMITTEE

The Ivy Hill PTA Cultural Arts Committee & Ivy Hill Elementary are bringing your kids the experience of visiting a science museum right at our school. The state-of-the-art hands-on children’s museum focuses on STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

Please help us to manage the kids & the exhibit. You can choose to be with your kid’s class.

PTA HAPPENINGS – April 6-12, 2018

BOOK FAIR COMMITTEE:  Our online book fair has opened up April 5th, and you can shop until April 18th. This is the perfect opportunity for you to buy books if you are unable to attend our school book fair.  All orders ship FREE to our school at the end of the Online Fair, which is April 18th. Books will be handed out to students at school. Don’t let the weather prevent your child from reading   When you click on Shop Now, you will see a page that asks for zip code. Type in 60004 and then click “search.”  From there you will see “Ivy Hill Book Fair.”  Click on “shop now,” and you are in.

Ivy Hill PTA Scholastic Book Fair “Paws for Books” needs your help for Book Fair & Preview Day, April 10 and 11. Many slots are available, feel free to sign up for multiple sessions. Ivy Hill Open House is on the same day from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For this reason, shorter time slots are available.  Book Fair Signup Link

RUNNING CLUB COMMITTEE:   Dates:  Grades K-2 will run on April 5, 12, and 19 from 3:35 – 4:15; Grades 3 through 5 will run on April 3, 10, and 17 from 3:35 – 4:15.  Pick up time for all students will be at 4:15 p.m.

We are hoping all students participating in Run Club will sign-up for the Just Move It! Challenge on April 21st to represent Ivy Hill and the Eagle Nation!!  More information with how to sign-up for the Just Move It Challenge can be found below.
