PTA Happenings: Nov. 20-26, 2015
LUNCH TIME READERS: Will be starting in JANUARY! This PTA Sponsored program is for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Once a week, for 6 weeks, parent volunteers will lead a book discussion group to be held during the ½-hour lunchtime recess period. The groups are formed based on the students’ book choices. A display of this year’s book choices can be found in the Ivy Hill LMC, for your child to preview. Coming soon, you will be able to look online for more information about the book choices. We want Lunchtime Readers to be FUN, not a chore!! All reading is done at home.
There will be a “wrap-up” celebration for all participants at the conclusion of the program. Last year, we had close to 200 students participate in Lunchtime Readers! Encourage your child to join in the fun! More details will come in the following weeks.

THE GARDEN COMMITTEE: Thank you to the following families for helping with the fall cleanup of the Ivy Hill gardens this past weekend: Capito, Derochowski, Nason, Rao, Vena, and Zulaski. The garden looks great and we were able to donate lots of ripe tomatoes and peppers to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry.
The Environmental Awareness Committee: We will be holding two drives in December/early January. One is our annual recycling of holiday lights drive. If you have any old and/or non-working holiday lights, please drop them off in the designated boxes in the Commons area starting December 1st. Secondly, we are having a used board games drive. We are requesting any gently used board games with all pieces included. These board games will be given to our teachers that are in need of some new board games, especially for indoor recess. Please leave these donations in the marked box in the Commons area, too. Both drives will be taking place December 1st –January 8th. Also, note that we will be holding a book drive, used shoe drive and marker drive in the spring. If you do a “fall/winter” cleaning over the Thanksgiving or Holiday break, please be sure to hang on to these items for our collections in April. Questions?
