PTA HAPPENINGS– April 19 – April 25, 2019

EARTH WEEK: We will be celebrating Earth Week 4/23 – 4/26 with the following collections & events:

  • Bernie’s Book Drive 4/23 – 5/3: Bring your new & gently used books (suitable for K-6th grade) for the Ivy Hill book drive.  Collection bins will be located in the Commons area.  All of the books will be donated to Bernie’s Books to increase book ownership among at-risk infants toddlers & school age children throughout Chicagoland.
  • Reuse-A-Shoe Drive 4/23 – 4/26: Bring in your old shoes so they can be reused & recycled instead of ending up in landfills.  All shoes except water boots are accepted.  Please either put each pair of shoes in a recycled plastic bag and wrap them with a rubber band OR tie the shoes together.
  • Bags for Bags Collection: Bring a bag filled with plastic bags & film packaging (over toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) to our recycle bin in the Commons area.
  • Walk to School Day on Friday, 4/26: Join us to promote a physically active lifestyle! There will be six starting points throughout the neighborhood for students to meet with teachers & parents and walk to school.  These six starting points will be: Douglas/Hintz @ 8:30am, Camelot Park @ 8:40am, Windsow/Valley @ 8:45am, Pinetree/Valley @ 8:45am, Ivy/A.H. Rd. @ 8:40am, and Burke/Palatine @ 8:40 a.m.

SENIOR WALK: Calling all Ivy Hill alumni who are graduating Seniors! Be a part of Ivy Hill’s newest tradition on May 22! Check out this flyer for more information.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The following individuals are slated for Executive Board Offices for 2019-2020.  Please mark your calendars for the May 15th PTA meeting, when the new Executive Board will be voted in.  Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the time of the election. Nominees must have agreed to take on the role (if elected) prior to their nomination.

I-FIVES go to: ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge Committee (Megan Geltner and Katie Rausch) for all the ways they supported our school in preparing for and participating in the Get Burbed Challenge this year!

SAVE THE DATE: Our next PTA Meeting is Wednesday, May 15 @ 7pm. All parents are welcome! This is the last meeting of the year. We will be voting in our 2019-2020 Executive Board at the meeting and need at least 15 to vote in our new Board. Refreshments will be served and childcare is available.

ABC/25 GET BURBED CHALLENGE: Race day is on Saturday, April 13. We are looking forward to this fun event. Please join us in support of all District 25 students either by running, walking or volunteering! Don’t miss out! You can still register in person at packet pick up or on race day. Race Day Events – Saturday, April 13th at South Middle School:

  • 6:30 AM – 7:45 AM – Race Day Registration (5K)  
  • 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM – Race Day Registration (1 Mile)
  • 7:30 AM – 10:00 AM – Health and Fitness Expo  
  • 7:30 AM – 10:00 AM – Silent Auction  
  • 8:00 AM – 5K Run/Walk Start  
  • 9:00 AM – 1 Mile Run/Walk Start
  • 9:40 AM (approximate) – Awards Ceremony  
  • 10:00 AM – Silent Auction Ends

ABC/25 GET BURBED CHALLENGE: Race day is almost here! Online registration for the ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge closes on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 8:00 pm! We are looking forward to this fun event, please join us in support of all District 25 students either by running, walking or volunteering! Don’t miss out! Register now! After 4/10, you can register in person at packet pick up or on race day. Race Day Events –

This event cannot happen without help from 90 volunteers! Please consider helping with this fun event. Volunteer participation counts toward your school’s participation goal and all volunteers receive a race technical t-shirt. Sign up by 4/10 to be entered in a drawing for prizes from local Arlington Heights businesses! Sign up here! After 4/10, please email the Race Directors at abc25challenge.com to sign up to volunteer.   

Early registrants who selected school delivery for their race packets will receive them during the week of April 8th. If you don’t receive it by Thursday, April 11th, please contact us immediately at abc25challenge@gmail.com. Packet pick up for everyone else is Friday, April 12th at Runner’s High ‘n Tri, from 10 am – 7 pm. Or you can pick it up on race day starting at 6:30 am at South Middle School.

New this year – ABC/25 Foundation Silent Auction!!! Check out unique items and experiences donated by SD25 Parents and AH Community members. You can bid on a ride to school in a police car or fire truck, an Apple Watch, Cubs tickets and more! Be sure to bring a credit card for payment at the close of the auction.

ANXIETY PARENT PRESENTATION: Preteen/Teen Anxiety is reaching epidemic proportions in our area, impacting nearly every student at some level!  South PTA is proud to host Jennifer Zielinski, M.A, N.C.C, L.C.P.C. from F.A.I.R. Counseling, Inc. (Families and Adolescents In Recovery) who will give a Free Parent Presentation on Preteen/Teen Anxiety on Thursday, April 11th at 7:00pm in South Middle School’s Multi-Purpose Room.  Learn about hidden signs of anxiety, coping tips, and treatment options, as well as ask questions from the floor. Presentation will be primarily geared towards parents of 5th-8th graders.  See flyer for details.
