PTA HAPPENINGS – April 20-26, 2018

COMMUNITY AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:  In celebration of Earth Day, join us in a week of collections and activities to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage families to reduce, reuse and recycle!  Below is an overview of our 2018 Earth Week activities for April 23 – 27th.  Go Green in April with these Recycling Drives April 23 through 27.  In the spirit of Earth Week, wear green or blue on Friday, April 27th.

  1. Bernie’s Book Drive:  Donate your gently used children books – infants to 6th grade.  Our goal is 1500 books which will be donated to at-risk children throughout the Chicagoland area.
  2. Reuse-A-Shoe Drive:  Bring in your old shoes, tie or rubber band shoes together
  3. Bag for Bags Collection: Bring a bag filled with plastic bags & film packaging (over TP,  paper towels…) and know you are making a difference in saving our Earth.
  4. *Be Cool & Walk to School” on Thursday, April 26th and get a cool hand stamp for participating.   The following are the six starting points throughout the neighborhood for all students to meet with teachers & parents and walk to school:
  • Douglas & Hintz – 8:30 start to Ivy Hill
  • Camelot Park – 8:40 start to Ivy Hill
  • Windsor & Valley – 8:45 start to Ivy Hill
  • Pinetree & Valley – 8:45 start to Ivy Hill
  • Ivy & Arlington Heights Road – 8:40 start to Ivy Hill
  • Burke & Palatine Road 8:40 start to Ivy Hill

All students are welcome to participate.  If  you live on the other side of a busy road (Arlington Heights Road, Palatine, etc.) you can drop your child(ren) at the starting point closest to your home.  Also, you can meet up with the Walking School Bus as it passes your house – you don’t have to start at the starting points.  Let’s get active!

BOOK FAIR COMMITTEE:  Our online book fair has opened up April 5th, and you can shop until April 18th. This is the perfect opportunity for you to buy books if you are unable to attend our school book fair.  All orders ship FREE to our school at the end of the Online Fair, which is April 18th. Books will be handed out to students at school. Don’t let the weather prevent your child from reading   When you click on Shop Now, you will see a page that asks for zip code. Type in 60004 and then click “search.”  From there you will see “Ivy Hill Book Fair.”  Click on “shop now,” and you are in.

Ivy Hill PTA Scholastic Book Fair “Paws for Books” needs your help for Book Fair & Preview Day, April 10 and 11. Many slots are available, feel free to sign up for multiple sessions. RUNNING CLUB COMMITTEE:  The Ivy Hill Eagle Running Club is starting when we return from Spring Break.  This is a non-competitive club open to all students.  The club’s goals are to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to have fun! Our expectation is that if you sign-up for Run Club you will participate in all 3 dates.

Dates:  Grades K-2 will run on April 5, 12, and 19 from 3:35 – 4:15; Grades 3 through 5 will run on April 3, 10, and 17 from 3:35 – 4:15.  Pick up time for all students will be at 4:15 p.m.   If your child is interested, please sign up below.

ABC/25 FOUNDATION JUST MOVE IT! CHALLENGE:  Register for the Just Move It Challenge 2018!  RUN, WALK, DONATE OR HELP!  Just Move it!  Registration, Volunteering, and Event Details: Just Move It! Challenge or sign up directly at Just Move It! Registration

  • When: Saturday April 21, 2018.
  • Where: South Middle School, 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
  • Health and Fitness Expo
  • 8:00 a.m. 5K Run/Walk Start, 9:00 a.m. 1 Mile Run/Walk Start

MOVIE NIGHT COMMITTEEIVY HILL MOVIE NIGHT for K-2nd grade is Friday, March 9 at 6:15p.m. The students have voted to watch, “Moana.” Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. The movie will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:15 p.m. Come and join the fun!!! ARLINGTON HEIGHTS COUNCIL OF PTAs:  District 25 PTA Council approved a new committee called “A.C.E. it 25” (All Children Excel). The committee will focus on supporting children with special needs and their families. Goals of the committee are to promote disability awareness, facilitate inclusion at PTA functions and create a parent support network. Each school will have a liaison who would attend PTA meetings and act as a point of contact should questions arise. The liaison would also communicate parent requests or concerns to the school PTA. If you would be interested in being the Ivy Hill liaison for this committee, please contact:  Luanne Eisenhardt @ Lbeisenhardt@yahoo.com.

PTA HAPPENINGS – Feb. 23-March 1, 2018

MOVIE NIGHT COMMITTEEIVY HILL MOVIE NIGHT for K-2nd grade is Friday, March 9 at 6:15p.m. The students have voted to watch, “Moana.” Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the movie will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:15 p.m. Come and join the fun!!! Cost is $5 for a prepaid ticket or $7 at the door. Permission Slips are coming home soon. Kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring a sleeping bag, pillow and their favorite stuffed animal to enjoy the movie. BOXTOPS COMMITTEE:  Boxtops Raffle!  It’s easy, just clip your Boxtops and place them in an envelope or bag with your child’s name on it.  Submit the Boxtops to your child’s teacher by February 28th to win a fun poster.  Don’t forget to write your child’s full name on the bag.
