PTA Happenings April 30, 2021 – May 6, 2021

May is here, our last full month of the school year, how exciting this is, especially for kids. PTA Happenings are winding down, but let’s not frown, there is still more to do and plan, look below if you can.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK: May 3rd-7th is teacher appreciation week! Please remember our awesome teachers and all the hard work they have put in this year.

KIDS PANDEMIC COMMITTEE:  Look for a funny magic show virtual assembly coming to a screen near you on Wednesday, May 19th. More details to follow.  We will also be having some sweet treats for the kiddos closer to the end of the school year!

I-FIVES: Thank you to all the kids and families who participated in all of our Earth Week collections.  It was a great success!  We collected a huge amount of books and over 300 pairs of shoes!  A special thank you  to Kim Mullan, Sheila Crowley, Aska Lempke, Suzanne Kruase and the wonderful group of 4th grade girls and siblings who helped promote and collect books, shoes, and plastic during Earth Week.  

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING: The next school board meeting is Thursday, May 6th @ 7:30pm at the Dunton Administration Building.

April is ending, look at the time we’ve been spending, creating activities and treats, making sure all have fun eats. The weather is changing, hopefully sunny days are near, but let’s not forget what we hold dear: our kids and our school, Ivy Hill is a jewel. Please look below before you go, we have a lot to show.

KIDS PANDEMIC COMMITTEE: The Kids Pandemic Relief Committee arranged a special treat for the students to enjoy on May 19. More info. to come!!

IVY HILL BOOK DRIVE AND SHOE DRIVE: In celebration of Earth Week, Ivy Hill will be holding a book drive as well as a Reuse-A-Shoe collection April 20 -23rd.   We are accepting both children and adult books in good condition as well as craft and cook books and more.  DVD’s and CD’s will also be collected. 

As far as shoes, we can accept shoes in any condition.  Boots from rain boots to hiking boots are accepted, too, but no snow boots.  Collection boxes will be set up outside the main entrance as well as in the Commons area. Please tie, rubber band or zip tie each pair of shoes together.

We will also collect plastic bags and film during this time.

EARTH WEEK:  Let’s celebrate Earth Week with Walk to School Week April 20 – 23rd.  Walk, bike, scooter ….to school one day, two…or all week to be a part of making our Earth a better place.  Mr. Kaese & Mrs. Lempke will be outside the school to cheer you on for helping our environment.  

ABC/25 GETBURBED CHALLENGE: Register for the 10th Annual ABC/25 GetBurbed Challenge on April 24, 2021! The event this year will consist of an In-Person 1 Mile Run held on April 24, 2021 at South Middle School along with a Virtual 1 Mile and 5K that you can complete anytime before May 2, 2021. THOMAS COMMITTEES: Thomas Middle School needs volunteers for some of their committees. Without volunteer chairs, some fun activities that the students are used to cannot happen. Please consider volunteering your time!

I-FIVES: Thank you to Connie Gonzalez for helping to organize the Ivy Hill Mask Sale! A big thank-you to two amazing Ivy Hill 3rd graders, Bridget Eckert and Maya Tyson, for designing the Ivy Hill face masks!!  Way to go girls!  They look awesome!!

PICTURE DAY RETAKES: Save the date! April 6th is retake day, remote learners can come in from 7:30am – 8:45 am, and in person students can take their pictures from 9:05am – 11:00am. Online order code 58076G. Click here to order! Parents only need to use this code if they plan to preorder, and their student is being photographed for the 1st time on retake day. If the parent already ordered, and they do not like the picture they just need to bring back the picture package, so the package can be reordered with the new retake picture. If the parent did not order and would like their child to do a retake, they do not need to bring anything.

MONDAY FUNDAY REMOTE THEMES: April 5th Take a picture with your Pet/Stuffed Animal Day, April 12th PJ Day.

THOMAS MIDDLE SCHOOL PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The TMS PTA is looking for suggestions of persons who would be interested in serving as a PTA Officer for the upcoming school 2021-2022 school year, and they would like to include parents of 6th graders that will be moving onto Thomas next year also. The positions that they need to fill are President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer. They would welcome any suggestions of people who you feel would be willing and able to make a contribution to the TMS PTA next year. Please note that PTA rules require that the President-Elect have prior PTA Officer or PTA Committee Chairperson experience at either the Middle School or Elementary School levels.
