PTA Happenings – Jan. 27 – Feb. 2, 2017

FUN FAIR COMMITTEE:   Fun Fair is our biggest event where we need YOU to help make it a success. Friday, February 3rd from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. the kids come in and have a great time playing games with their friends. We need moms, dads, and high-schoolers to volunteer and make the night successful!   The pre-sale wristband price is $12.  The cost on the night of Fun Fair will be $15.  Click the attached link and join in all the fun! CHESS CLUB COMMITTEE:   Registration deadline extended to February 3!  Calling all chess enthusiasts in grades 1-5! Chess Club is coming on Monday, Jan. 30th, but there is still time to register.  We will have an instructional video during lunch recess on 1/30, so chess experience is not necessary.  Chess Club will meet during lunch recess on 2/6, 2/13, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13 & 3/20.   We always need volunteers, and knowledge of chess is NOT required.  It’s a great way to help out your child’s school without a big time commitment.  Questions? NOMINATING COMMITTEE:  WE NEED YOUR NOMINATIONS! The nomination process to elect the 2017-2018 IVY HILL PTA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE is underway!  Please seriously consider who you know that might be qualified to serve in the following positions: Co-President (Presides over meetings and is responsible for general direction of PTA), 1st VP (Manage Volunteer Lists and Plan Year End Celebration), 3rd VP (Ways & Means) and Secretary (Monthly Meeting Minutes and PTA Correspondence).  Please nominate your friends, neighbors, or even yourself for these rewarding PTA positions that directly impact and benefit our children at Ivy Hill.  You can nominate candidates by filling out a nomination ballot (copies are available at the school or can be downloaded here) and placing it in the nomination box in the school OR by completing nominations online at  Live Nomination Ballot.  Nominations need to be submitted by MondayFebruary 13th2017-2018 officer Nomination Printable Ballot.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS COUNCIL PTA:   Deadline Extended– AHML/AHPTA/AHSD Technology Fair Information.  District 25 and Arlington Heights Council of PTAs will join with Arlington Heights Memorial Library for a Technology Fair on Saturday, March 4th, 2017. Students can either demonstrate how they use technology to the Arlington Heights community or volunteer to assist AHML staff during the event. . Projects to be presented will be selected by AHML to ensure appropriate space and topic. PLEASE COMPLETE THIS REGISTRATION FORM BY SUNDAY JANUARY 29th, 2017.   Technology Fair Registration Form  Selected presenters will be notified by February 6th, 2017Questions? The Illinois PTA Scholarship online application is now live at:  http://illinoispta.org/scholarshipapplication.html. Application due date is February 15, 2017.
  • A minimum of 3.0 out of a 4.0 unweighted grading scale is required.
  • The graduating senior mus be enrolling in a college or university in education or education-related degree program, which requires certification from a State Board of Education.
  • A transcript with a minimum of 7 semester high school grades must accompany the application. Online-scholarship-announcement.

JUVENILE PROTECTION COMMITTEE:  Red Ribbon Week is 1/24 – 1/27.  The daily activities schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, 1/24:       Kick off to Red Ribbon Week – Wear Red!
Wednesday, 1/25: Put A Sock On Drugs Day – Mismatched Socks Day
Thursday, 1/26:     Be On A Drug Free Team Day (Wear Your Favorite Team Gear)
Friday, 1/27:           Doing Drugs is Crazy (Crazy hair day)

BOX TOPS/SHOPAROO COMMITTEE:   Don’t forget to submit your Box Tops and scan your receipts into Shoparoo until 1/27/17 to be entered into our next raffle!  This month’s prizes for Box Tops will be three Berry Yo gift certificates and a Fun Fair wristband!  Two winners will be chosen for Shoparoo and will each receive a Half Price Books gift certificate and a Fun Fair wristband.  Good Luck!

REFLECTIONS COMMITTEE:  Congratulations to these students whose Reflections projects advanced to the Northwest Cook Region. The Arlington Heights Council received 137 projects.  While they couldn’t advance all the projects, the students did a wonderful job telling their stories and what is important to them.  They should all be proud of their work! Projects selected to advance to the next level will be notified by Claudine Mele.

A Reflections Celebration will be held at Ivy Hill on January 31, 2017, from 7:00-8:00 p.m.  ALL participants’ artwork will be set up around the commons, and light refreshments will be served.  Each student will receive a Certificate of Participation from the Council.  Artwork can be taken home after the reception. This reception is for all who submitted a project, not just the students who advanced.

YEARBOOK COMMITTEE:  Get your pictures in the yearbook!  The Yearbook Staff invites you to submit photos for the yearbook. If you’ve got great photos of school events, please submit them.  Our photographers can’t be everywhere. Help us get as many photos as possible to create a terrific book everyone will want to have.  We prefer small group photos and all the kids in the photo need to attend Ivy Hill.

SIX-HOUR READING CLUB:   Just a reminder that log sheets signed by a parent are due to homeroom teachers by Monday, January 9 to earn a FREE Six Flags Great America one-day pass for the 2017 summer season.
