PTA HAPPENINGS– October 18 – October 24, 2019

REFLECTIONS COMMITTEE: Does your child enjoy art, music, and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films, and taking photos? Then they should join us and have fun unleashing their inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme, “Look Within”, calls for their own unique interpretation through the arts. Additional information regarding submission guidelines will follow in the coming weeks. Projects will be due Monday, October 28. RED RIBBON WEEK: We will be hosting our Red Ribbon Week from October 28 – November 1. The Red Ribbon campaign was established to raise awareness about alcohol, tobacco, drugs, violence and bullying. We would love to have each student participate in the daily activities. Please see the schedule below and mark your calendars:

FUN RUN PARENT SURVEY: Please complete this short survey by Sun, October 13. Since this was the first year doing this event, we’d love your feedback!

IVY SPIRIT WEAR: It’s Spirit Wear Time!! Eagles, get ready to show your school spirit this Fall. Color order forms went home with your child on Friday, October 4 and should be returned to school with your child with payment by Friday, October 18. We are offering a selection of items at a variety of price points starting at $10 in all of the students favorite colors from royal blue to cyber pink and tie dye. We have four tee shirts, two hoodies for children, one hoodie for adults, a 1/4 zip dry-fit long sleeve tee and a beanie hat. 

Parent Volunteers, we’d love for you to join the fun and sport one of these styles to the school the next time you are volunteering. It makes it easier for the students find help at an event and it promotes community. All items are available in adult sizes.

All orders are being done via this paper form. No late orders after the 18th will be accepted. Make checks payable to “Ivy Hill PTA” or send exact cash payment in an envelope. Estimated delivery date is the week of November 6th.  Please direct questions to Meghann VanderBaan (meg@mkvanderbaan) with the subject line “IVY HILL SPIRIT WEAR QUESTION” and she will get back to you. 

3rd-5th GRADE IVY MOVIE NIGHT: Students have elected to watch Ralph Breaks the Internet on Friday, October 18th.  Permission slips went home soon and are due back by October 11th.  Doors open at 6:15pm and movie starts at 6:30pm.

I-FIVES GO TO: Garden Committee (Michelle Derochowski and Lisa Nason) for working with our students and the Ivy Lunch Staff to prepare delicious salsa for everyone to try; Spirit Wear Committee (Meghan VanderBaan and Connie Lasalvia-Gonzalez) for all of their awesome work getting our Ivy spirit wear picked out and ready for order; Tammi Grippo and Lisa Akelian for always updating our Ivy Hill sign in front of the school to keep our community aware of important dates and events at our school.

BRUSCHETTA GARDEN TASTING: It’s Bruschetta tasting time!  As you may recall, your children helped plant a Bruschetta garden in the spring.  Now that it’s harvest time, your children will have the opportunity to sample some of the lovely vegetables they planted such as tomatoes, onions and basil in a Bruschetta we will be serving with some sort of chips or bread during lunch on Thursday, September 26.

FUN RUN: The Fun Run is off to a great start and the students are super excited for the event on Thursday, September 12.   • 9:10 – 10:10 AM: Morning Kinder & 4th Grade

Welcome Ivy families!

PTA MEETING: The first PTA General Meeting is on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. This will be opportunity to learn more about the PTA and its various committees. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Pizza will be served. PTA SURVEY: Calling all 2018-2019 Ivy families! Please complete this 5-10 minute survey to share your feedback about how we can continue to make sure we’re meeting the needs of our Ivy families. We hope we can get the majority of our families to complete it to help us make decisions for this school year. The final deadline to complete it is Monday, September 2. Thanks so much!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: The PTA runs so many wonderful events throughout the year that aren’t possible without parent volunteers. If you haven’t had a chance to complete this PTA Volunteer Form, please do! Thanks for all of your support.

FUN RUN: Mark your calendars – the PTA kicking off a new and exciting Fun Run fundraiser for the school!  This fundraiser is replacing the Stress Free Fundraiser that we’ve done in the past. It will officially kick off with a big student pep rally on Tuesday, September 3, and then students will collect online pledges and participate in daily character lessons through Wednesday, September 11.  The fundraiser will conclude with an all-school Fun Run on Thursday, September 12 during the school day.

Parents are welcome to come cheer their students on!  The run schedule for 9/12 is:

  • 9:10 – 10:10 AM: Morning Kinder & 4th Grade
  • 10:10 – 11:10 AM: 3rd and 1st Grade
  • 11:10 AM – 12:10 PM: 2nd and 5th Grade

We are in need of volunteers to help during each of the run sessions (each session is 1 hour) to help mark laps, pass out waters, and cheer on the students.  You can sign up for multiple run sessions and help cheer on your children.  We need 12 volunteers per run session.  Please sign up today! Fun Run Volunteer Sign Up. Parents are welcome to attend even after the volunteer spots are filled!

Parents can log on and register their students starting NOW at www.FunRun.com.  More information will be coming home with the students starting next week.

PTA Fun Run 2019

Our school is hosting a multi-day, fitness-based fundraiser where students (and families) will help raise funds while also learning important character lessons. 

September 12th the students at Ivy Hill will all be participating in a Fun Run during the school day!

This fundraiser will be replacing our STRESS-FREE FUNDRAISER that we have had in the past.

Ivy Hill has a goal to raise $25,000 for Community Building Activities, and to Enhance Our School Experiences & Events! 

Help us reach our goal this year by connecting with sponsors.

If we meet our school goal, then the Principal and Assistant Principal will get the opportunity of being slimed!
