PTA Happenings April 16, 2021 – April 22, 2021

The weather is warmer, the kids are outside, playing ball, tag, and even taking a bike ride. Such a sight to see, the games and fun, before we know it, April will be done. Look below, do not wait, take some notes, don’t be late.

IVY HILL BOOK DRIVE AND SHOE DRIVE: In celebration of Earth Week, Ivy Hill will be holding a book drive as well as a Reuse-A-Shoe collection April 20 -23rd.   We are accepting both children and adult books in good condition as well as craft and cook books and more.  DVD’s and CD’s will also be collected. 

As far as shoes, we can accept shoes in any condition.  Boots from rain boots to hiking boots are accepted, too, but no snow boots.  Collection boxes will be set up outside the main entrance as well as in the Commons area. Please tie, rubber band or zip tie each pair of shoes together.

We will also collect plastic bags and film during this time.

EARTH WEEK:  Let’s celebrate Earth Week with Walk to School Week April 20 – 23rd.  Walk, bike, scooter ….to school one day, two…or all week to be a part of making our Earth a better place.  Mr. Kaese & Mrs. Lempke will be outside the school to cheer you on for helping our environment.  

ABC/25 GETBURBED CHALLENGE: Register for the 10th Annual ABC/25 GetBurbed Challenge on April 24, 2021! The event this year will consist of an In-Person 1 Mile Run held on April 24, 2021 at South Middle School along with a Virtual 1 Mile and 5K that you can complete anytime before May 2, 2021. THOMAS COMMITTEES: Thomas Middle School needs volunteers for some of their committees. Without volunteer chairs, some fun activities that the students are used to cannot happen. Please consider volunteering your time!

I-FIVES: Thank you to Connie Gonzalez for helping to organize the Ivy Hill Mask Sale! A big thank-you to two amazing Ivy Hill 3rd graders, Bridget Eckert and Maya Tyson, for designing the Ivy Hill face masks!!  Way to go girls!  They look awesome!!

PICTURE DAY RETAKES: Save the date! April 6th is retake day, remote learners can come in from 7:30am – 8:45 am, and in person students can take their pictures from 9:05am – 11:00am. Online order code 58076G. Click here to order! Parents only need to use this code if they plan to preorder, and their student is being photographed for the 1st time on retake day. If the parent already ordered, and they do not like the picture they just need to bring back the picture package, so the package can be reordered with the new retake picture. If the parent did not order and would like their child to do a retake, they do not need to bring anything.

THOMAS MIDDLE SCHOOL PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The TMS PTA is looking for suggestions of persons who would be interested in serving as a PTA Officer for the upcoming school 2021-2022 school year, and they would like to include parents of 6th graders that will be moving onto Thomas next year also. The positions that they need to fill are President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer. They would welcome any suggestions of people who you feel would be willing and able to make a contribution to the TMS PTA next year. Please note that PTA rules require that the President-Elect have prior PTA Officer or PTA Committee Chairperson experience at either the Middle School or Elementary School levels. VIRTUAL ART CLUB: Welcome to part 2 of the Virtual Art Club! Once again this is taught remotely by Hello Art Studio(www.helloartstudio.com). Join us for weekly creative fun and connection! Four remote art lessons in four weeks for $30 per family (all siblings included in one fee). Sign up and receive a link to a prerecorded YouTube video each week, taught by the owner of Hello Art Studio. All siblings are welcome to “take the class” any time that works for your family over the course of the week. Virtual Art Club also includes a brief, optional Zoom share where you can show off your art and connect with the teacher and classmates on Saturdays at 11:00am.

WOODCRAFTER’S: Enjoy a family fun evening of DIY crafting while helping to support small business and your school. Woodcrafters DIY Studio will donate 10% of all sales back to Ivy Hill PTA. KIDS PANDEMIC RELIEF COMMITTEE: We are forming a new committee that will celebrate all the fabulous kids at Ivy Hill!!  The purpose of this committee is to say thank-you to all the students, both in-person and remote, for being so great and flexible during this unique year.  Responsibilities include brainstorming and facilitating ideas which celebrate all students. Ideas are endless!   (Please keep in mind, however, that Covid will prevent large gatherings and parties.)  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jennifer Sadowski, jenjen5757@aol.com

REFLECTIONS: Thank you to Jaxson Hawkins, Harshan Rajkumar Anusha, Mohammed Hamd Azhar, and Hosanna Feliz Peter who participated in the “I Matter Because…” Reflections Program this year! A special congratulations to Hosanna and Mohammed who have both advanced to the State level for their literary pieces! Everyone did a fantastic job!

CULTURAL EVENT: The PTA’s in all of District 25 Schools are collaborating together to put on a large Cultural Event which will celebrate a wide array of cultures.  Because of Covid and the uncertainty of large gatherings, the event has been postponed until Spring 2022. Although the actual event is a ways away, volunteers are currently needed to participate in the planning process. SWEET T’S BAKERY: Thank you to everyone who ordered cookies/cupcakes! VIRTUAL ART CLUB: Attention Ivy Hill artists! Would you like to participate in a virtual art club where you are taught how to draw by a professional then get to show off your beautiful art work?  Come join us for weekly virtual art lessons: four weeks, one class per week, $30! Sign up and receive a link to a prerecorded YouTube video each week, then “take the class” anytime. Then there are optional zoom classes on Saturdays.
